About the firm

Operating experience, then deal experience.

Marcus Capital Advisors was built around a simple observation: most sale processes struggle for reasons that have nothing to do with financial engineering. They struggle because the business underneath wasn't ready.

Why this firm exists

Alexander Marcus has spent his career moving between the operating side of businesses and the deal side. As an Operations Consultant, he's worked across winery, logistics, and commercial real estate businesses — analyzing operational and financial data, restructuring pricing and cost, and improving operating margins by 15% at one client through that work. On the commercial real estate side, that included direct exposure to deal structuring, lease analysis, and the asset-level drivers — occupancy, revenue per unit, margin — that determine what a property or business is actually worth.

He's also worked the deal side directly, at Diamond Capital Advisors, supporting senior bankers on middle-market M&A transactions: financial statement analysis and diligence, LBO and DCF modeling with full sensitivity analyses and return metrics (IRR, MOIC), buyer research and mapping, and management of confidential deal documentation — NDAs, LOIs, and CIMs — through live transaction processes.

That combination is the premise of the firm. A business that has been through real operational diligence walks into a sale process with cleaner financials, fewer surprises for a buyer, and a stronger negotiating position. Most advisory firms specialize in one side or the other. We do both.

How we work

A few operating principles

Selective by design

Few clients at a time

The firm takes on a limited number of engagements at once, across both practices, rather than running a high-volume advisory book.

Scope before start

Written scope, upfront

Every engagement begins with a clear, written scope and fee structure — no open-ended arrangements.

Structured to fit

Regulatory discipline

Sell-side mandates are structured to stay within the M&A Broker Exemption and applicable state requirements — see Deal Criteria for specifics.
